We have been spending the last few weeks just coming out of the tailspin and trying to regain our footing. Traction, in life, is so important. When life throws you off, most usually it's about one or two things that have concocted a mess to make your head spin. This spring, it has been about one thing after another and everything getting progressively stronger in it's ability to break the spirit. We are getting back on track. Slowly but surely. We do see a light at the end of the tunnel and we just have to remain strong and diligent and keep focusing on the light.
In an effort to cut every single expense that we could, we no longer have phone, internet, and cable at home. This has turned into days and nights of camping out at starbucks to mooch our connection to the world wide web. It also has made our home nice and peaceful.....without technology, it makes our interactions more authentic and things like a redbox 'movie night' are considered a treat and are for special occasions or date night. We have also shut down our website. Now, I know that this will worry some of you. We are not leaving. We will stay strong and committed to getting your orders to you, as we can. Instead of spending $70 for our website and domain every month, we have added a shopping cart to our website. We will not have the wide range of products we once had. I need to scale back to an amount that is easier to maintain and I just can't do that with so many options. We have been blessed to have a few extremely patient customers and I am so thankful for that kindness during this exceptionally hard time. We have also been blessed with a friend who let's me use internet several hours a week. {you know who you are!}.

Finally, today is Father's Day. I lost my father when I was 20.....20 short years ago. He was everything to me and had a heart of gold. I like to think that I possess all of his great attributes. His caring heart, his artistic expressions, his blue eyes, his compassion, his love of animals, his strength, his courage, his ability to make others smile, his hope, his kindness, his ability to know no stranger...the list could go on for miles. A hug from him, or him reaching out to hold your hand when you were scared, always made me feel safe and special. I hope others feel that from me. Hope you all have a great father's day. I'm heading home to work in the studio. Much to do, Much to do! Fall is having it's way with my allergies...that's for sure. I was so sad to miss out on the day by being down with a migraine.... but, in an effort to salvage the day, i spent a couple hours this evening doing resting work. what exactly is resting work? it's simple....it's work that i can do from a lounging, or semi~lounging position...lol. I spent the evening scanning vintage postcards and creating digital collage sheets for our VintagePress shop over at storenvy. i've neglected it, mainly because we needed to unpack and find all of our postcards and such, and also because i had many other priorities with the .com, that i just sorta put this on the back~burner. like this blog, i am recommitting to posting and remaining active with the storenvy shop between now and christmas. i have TONS of Christmas items to scan and really wanted to fine~tune the process and get my feet wet, so.to.speak, with a couple of postcards...so be warned...Christmas is Coming! I also updated the storefront and made it a little more cohesive with the other shop.... and a little less spring~like... i'm definitely liking the looks of the .com, blog, and storenvy all looking like they belong together!
other than that...tomorrow i am working back in the studio again {if a migraine doesn't land on my head!} and helping with my mom's antique sale.... hope your weekend is beautiful! blessings, opheliaOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-40151705174106742412012-10-17T21:42:00.000-07:002012-10-17T21:42:37.868-07:00Season's Change

i picked up knitting again, like i do every winter, for my 'hobby' during my 'time off' moments.... currently working on a pretty cowl to wear...so the blog will likely get posts about my knitting projects. our home has enough space for a huge workshop...so that's nice to be able to work from home again. ....and, i'm currently working on setting up a guest bedroom/sewing room/art room in our spare bedroom. i will post before and after pics when i get it finished!
you can find our stand~alone site at oaandp.com! hopefully, i will be better about blogging... my problems with it are that i forget my password and then just give up on trying to reset it {very old email address that hasn't been used since '07}. anyway....peace be still.... i'm off to work on a project or two! loves, opheliaOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-49273912173657741042012-03-08T21:57:00.002-08:002012-03-08T21:59:42.428-08:0014,000 sales!Wow.... 14,ooo sales..... that's a lot! We are so lucky that we can be our own bosses and we have you to thank for that. I'm thinking a 'things.I've.learned.in.14,000 sales' post coming on. We also have lots to document here about our path to our brick and mortar! stay tuned! ~opheliaOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-14530650120822511972012-02-17T21:12:00.000-08:002012-02-17T21:24:07.594-08:00So Much Work, So Little Time!hello loves! so. kickstarter was a no and i was super discouraged for getting turned down and had to spend an afternoon feeling bad about it, and then i got up, dusted of my knees and started plotting new ways to make it work. those of you who know me personally, know i never stay down for long! we found a new website, much like kickstarter, called indiegogo. i LOVE indiegogo! so, we started a capital campaign and it can be found here.
additionally, we started making final decisions about fixtures and got them on order. the only details on fixtures left to worry with are 1}ordering the sink and installing, and 2}finishing out the cashwrap with logo.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx0l5PkcUn46qWEJuxRTB3vZfuq8_KmdQR6AidIYHpL2bb0dlcYfB6rGJeNeckkfEhIqRRKEKEs4M16AExLVkCx4srPcsbFJo-ZwPfWR41-9mpB0_7p6727xVut2XK6_JJwx79g0hR7W9Z/s400/shop+fixtures+update.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5710340909024892946" />
i can't wait for the day that i'm posting pics of the finished shop!...and, i'm loving journaling the process along the way! so. that's it for today... i will soon be posting updates to the campaign with the map of the salesfloor as well as planograms with where the products will go. as one of our family members said on the phone today....'it really sounds like you are serious' ....lol. um. yeah. i think it's official...lol. goodnight lovelies! ~oOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-39561364864287366472012-02-13T14:14:00.000-08:002012-02-13T14:21:05.046-08:00kickstarter is a no......well. i have some good news and some bad news. the bad news is that our idea and concept wasn't accepted by kickstarter. the good news is, we still have two months {as we will get a better deal on the lease if we sign prior to the season beginning} to work really hard to try to facilitate starting the shop on our own. hopefully, by the time April rolls around, 'our place' will still be available. i'm trying not to be super sad about it. but. everything happens for a reason, and i'm sure there is a good one that i'm just not seeing at the moment. .... of course, my knee jerk reaction is to do a heartsy~like deal again. but, while that would give us much needed capital, i swore i would never do it again. so, that is not an option no matter how much i want this shop. sad.snowy.day. big hugs all around..... oOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-3010134250590203432012-02-12T15:14:00.001-08:002012-02-12T16:13:12.016-08:00Sunday, happy Sunday!
hello lovelies! as promised, another blog post and pictures of what~we~are~referring~to, as 'our place' ...lol. we actually didn't get to spend that much time yesterday taking photos. not as much time as i would have liked, but we were on our way to visit with family, so we vowed to go back and spend more time there today! this first pic is of our sweet sweet picket fence! While we were outside milling about, the workers called in the property management for us to have a chit~chat. this particular neighborhood is all owned by the same group, and the little shop we want is actually situated right behind the beautiful and historic Branson Hotel. We asked a few pertinent questions and, because it was a bit cold out {february, go figure! the one day we want to hang out outside in the sun, it's actually chilly!}, we went across to the hotel to talk, exchange info, and tell them about Ophelia's Apothecary. The area between the hotel and 'our place', we were told, is where there will be farmers' markets on the weekends and in the evenings, turned into a little local hangout with live music and art. The hotel is a.....m.....a.....z....i...n....g. really. i can't say enough about it, and while the website does give you a good idea of the time and attention to detail these peeps have, it still isn't quite the same as seeing it in person! We shared our vision of the shop and tried to communicate our passion for what we do. hopefully it came through! then, we were on our way....

now, today, after having barely had any sleep because of thinking about it and planning, and drawing sketches.... we decided to return to get a few more photos.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 165px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-1HNHICT2twR53uf0uNkjwwvFU9nmqsEisMNGm85rxI-8TZU5ir9UfeWVzk1t4Uy_AOE_zP-nO57MkRXj7CqLS-5VUG1w04C5964n5_lt4svyfKqFo4zG7t_9kB_kdGKokOhI2GyMjU0U/s200/1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708404975186364274" /> this photo is inside from the back wall looking toward the front {and a great shot of heather!} this is the view from where our sink will be located. i find it so so so very important to have a sink on the sales floor for customers to try out scrubs and to encourage them to try new products for their bathing routine!

this photo is taken of the inside down the east wall of the shop. i would like to situate the cashwrap in between the first window {out of view here on the right}, and this second window further down the wall, facing west so that it will be open with full view of the shop. as you can see, much renovation is in the process! everything will be white washed and lovely!

and, finally, a photo of the outside! the usable space measures about 25 x 20, if i had to take a guess, maybe a little more! as you can see, not much work has been done outside.... nothing a few fresh coats of white paint, some landscaping, and a big 'ophelia's apothecary' sign can't fix! now that my blogging for the day is complete, i'm out to the studio for mixing, blending, and pouring candles! goodnight loves! hugs, the divine miss oOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-24655526846345886902012-02-11T18:36:00.000-08:002012-02-11T19:09:37.147-08:00Down the Yellow Brick Road.....wow.... how things have changed since i last blogged! really, obviously, blogging doesn't come first nature for me! lol. i spend tons of time online, and i can totally get behind facebook, twitter, pinterest {oh my, how i need a pintervention!}, etsy, goodsie, you name it..... but blogging...blogging is hard for me! we have a renewed passion to open a brick and mortar, now that we are in Branson, so, this renewed passion is the launching pad to journal making our dreams come true!

so, you ask, why do we want a brick and mortar? for starters, while we love love love our little at~home studio, we really want to grow the business in a practical and logical way. we don't have the space to have employees come to the house to help during the peak seasons, and we really want a space that will allow us to interact with customers and get the product in the hands of {and on the hands of} our clients. The downtown historical district is alive and thriving with the recently built Branson Landing and has really brought the downtown a much needed boost of money and traffic. we were just down there today, and for the second weekend in February {typically smack dab in the middle of the 'off' season}, there was hustle and bustle about that just made me want to be a part of it. so. that's the why!

now that you know the why, let me explain the how! last night during a late night biz brainstorming session, we stumbled upon kickstarter. wow.....what an awesome site that is! if you aren't familiar with kickstarter, let me enlighten you! kickstarter is a site where you can pitch your artsy~smartsy ideas to peeps around the world and offer them incentives to help back your project. i love love love this idea! .....and, it's just what we need right now.... an injection of capital to help our dreams take flight. now. don't get me wrong.... the site is not a place to fund your life, or pay off bills, or a place to grab wads of cash like winning the lottery. there is still work involved like promoting your project, finding backers, updating progress along the way, and, of course, having a good, solid plan in place. we submitted the preliminary information and it will need to go through some vetting prior to the actual campaign going live. we are saying our prayers and holding this dream in the highest of intention so that we can see it all take shape!

so. for tonight let me leave you with this vision.... imagine a small, little whitewashed house built in the 30's. lots of windows to wash the shop in a warm glow. bundles of lavender hanging to dry along the wall. whitewashed cabinets and tables leading to an old bankers table turned cashwrap. a custom perfume blending bar lining one wall. amber glass apothecary jars, marble, herbs, and essential oils stir your senses. this is our dream, and i just know we will get all the backing we need for it to take flight! tomorrow, i will show you pictures of the little house we found..... it's the perfect spot and is owned by an investment group looking to turn the historical houses into wonderfully eclectic shops. we would be situated near a salon, a wellness center, a photography studio, and a boutique. they have plans to host a farmers market every weekend and live music, wine, and gallery type walk in the evenings on the weekends. the house we are interested in is in the process of being remodeled, so, i will tell you now, you gotta have vision to see it working.... but, don't worry, we have enough vision for us all!

sweet dreams my friends, xoxox ophelia
OpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-34475778271714341802011-06-03T23:23:00.000-07:002011-06-03T23:44:05.781-07:00turning over a new leaf!hello loves! if you are a quickie~shower~in~the~morning type of girl..... the next time you take a shower, think of ways throughout your process that you can elaborate on, without really 'costing' you anything more.
little indulgences that will give you more bang for the bling::
~grab an essential oil and drop a couple drops of oil into a cloth and take into the shower with you. allow the steam to work with the essential oil to give you an aroma~therapeutic shower. if you shower in the morning, pick something like grapefruit, rosemary, peppermint, or ginger for a jump start to your day or lavender, chamomile, rose, or sandalwood for a shower at night.
~find a fluffy bathrobe to use after your shower..... eco~peeps, please don't flog me..... but, in the winter months, i like to warm up my robe in the dryer while i brew the coffee or grab my bowl of cereal. then, i roll it up very tightly, and wrap it in my bath towel to stay warm. when i get out of the shower, i have a nice warm robe to snuggle up in.
~instead of the telly or early morning rush hour news on the radio....tune into some more balancing, natural tunes. something that resonates with you to really start your day off right

and, if you are a bath junkie like me..... you are probably more in~tune with a bathing ritual like mine. I love a good bubble bath. my bath routine starts with that warm robe.... then i find some tunes {sometimes its chill music, sometimes a little sarah mclachlan, other times michael buble}, and tea lights. PLENTY of tea lights. my favorite candle holders for a bubble bath are the ones that hold multiple tea lights. tea lights are perfect because they are affordable, burn just long enough, and with the affordability factor, you can afford to have any size candle glow you like!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 112px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI6XF_xhJCwBg526XYM_Bry3s_mBMZqcb0TF61W5cY48AUP7RiBWo1DKBrznHxDpGTXsK8RvZ9Mpq8R2YSLRzbk5UcXDccgIfhAxRQbANs53w1tfpOTuGh2U7DL3Oqlfu8zFRywVWFPQNX/s200/bath.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5556021850183951506" />~draw the perfect temperature bath..... one too hot can actually get your blood pressure up, which isn't good if you are intending to relax! and one alittle on the cooler side will actually be energizing..... you need one 'just right'....
~if i'm needing a good exfoliation, i grab my favorite body scrub and buff away.

once done, whether shower or bath, now is the best time to moisturize....the skin is ready to accept a moisturizer, and it works with the humidity of the bathroom to sink in. remember, if you are moisturizing during this time, you actually need less lotion or body cream, so start off with a little. it's always easier to grab more, if needed, then trying to massage in too much!OpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-4963819787623086102010-12-27T18:28:00.000-08:002010-12-27T18:48:59.421-08:00Welcome to the First.....
...of many Make~Up Mondays!

ok. so we have had our new make~up listings up for less than 48 hours and we've already sold 6 pieces! i'm so so so excited to share our mineral make~up with our customer~friends! i am having so much fun shopping for ingredients and then mixing and blending away in our studio with all the fun new colors! We are enjoying reflecting back over the last year, and thinking about all the 'presents' we were given and are thankful for. We are pretty content with all we have been given this year..... we had over 4000 sales this year on etsy, a candle feature in an international home decor magazine/ezine, lots of wholesale accounts, many customers turned friends, a fun trip to LA to see one of the brick and mortars that carry ophelia's and getting to meet dear online friends, getting an early christmas present wii to have a bit of fun and friendly competition with each other after long days at the studio, new friends, and moving the business from our home and getting our house BACK! oh, i did forget one MAJOR thing, our health and happiness! we are so so thankful for everything this year has given us and so happy to get to continue doing what we love! Thank you to all of you who believe in us, support us, love us, and to those who make us laugh and smile.....you all rock! Hope your holidays are bright and beautiful.....love, opheliaOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-17818486833086407992010-12-24T15:17:00.000-08:002010-12-24T16:44:05.940-08:00We Made It!wow.....our first real christmas on etsy......whew! let me be the first to tell you, it was crazy! leading into the holiday rush, we were fortunate enough to have several big features. this started the craziness the first couple of weeks of november....and it didn't let up until just this last monday! so, with our extra time on our hands this week, we have been resting, and spending quality time with the fur~babies. We also had our first home~cooked meal since before my trip to LA in October! We are so very thankful to all our holiday shoppers and customers who have made this last year wonderful! This downtime has lead us into thinking about what our goals are for the next year.....and of course, we want it to be even more fabulous than this last year! ......so, it's time to put some goals into place!

and these are in no specific order, just things i have on my mind going into the new year!

~get organized. the seasonal frenzy around the christmas holiday was only exacerbated by the fact that we moved into our new production studio and business office the very first week of november. we NEVER would have survived this holiday if we had not moved. but, with that timing came obstacles of having no time to get things exactly how we wanted them in the new space. so, we are going to be spending some time getting everything just right to be more productive in the new year. One of our biggest organizational projects is getting the labels back under control! i know that many people don't think about the time it takes and the organizational task our labels require, but, it's a monster that could easily be a full~time job for someone! we have thousands of labels to design, cut out, and organize on a regular basis, and i plan on utilizing some of the quieter times to tackle this big mess we call 'the labels' we have cabinets like the one shown here, but, as our product line grows with the addition of mineral make~up, we will likely be adding more. you can find this wonderful cabinet at UnexpectedParTie on etsy!

~mineral make~up expansion! ok, funny story. i've been playing around in mineral make~up for awhile. and, really, just hesitating about making the leap. not out of fear of it not being successful, but more out of not wanting to commit to it yet, when we were trying to also focus on getting existing orders fulfilled, managing the move to the studio, and trying to get our turnaround times looking better....which THAT is a whole other goal we will talk about later! recently, though, we went to the ONE and only holiday function i could commit myself to, in this crazy season, and because i didn't have my 'color' of foundation on hand, i grabbed a foundation from a local drugstore. fifteen minutes into the function, my partner says 'your face is green! why is your jaw green?!?!' well, most of you know that i'm on a million medications, and one of them can cause major jaw problems resulting in serious infections. so, within 20 minutes time, as my jaw is turning more green by the minute, a gathering of about 6 people have all determined that i simply MUST get to my doctor's office straight away. all of this stress caused perspiration, to which i dabbed at with a paper towel. my green face was now coming off on the towel. yep. my chemistry, which is so delicate to body care and make~up, was now reacting with the so~called all~natural mineral makeup from physicians formula that i picked up so conveniently at CVS. moral of this story, only use OUR tried and true stuff, then my face won't turn green! We've already started listing our new hand~blended minerals in the shop, with many more colors coming soon!

and finally, but certainly not the last goal for the new year, but probably our most important and urgent goal, is focusing on turn~around time. this last season, we were behind most of the time, and we are so thankful to all of you who patiently waited! we are going to focus on fine~tuning our processes so that we can deliver the same fabulous quality, in less time! {you can find this fabulous clock at LucyandEllen on etsy}

add to these goals, two additional 'little' tasks....phbbbblt {insert raspberry here}, i am promising to TRY to keep up the blog better, and updates via our mailing~list.....i know. this is always part of my new year's resolutions, and, since we all know resolutions are made to be broken, i'm NOT putting them on the resolution list this year. nope! instead, they are flat out added to the goals for the first quarter. remember, it takes 21 days to make a habit....or so Mr. Harris, my high school science teacher said, so, you may get sick of all the blogging, networking, and overall shameless promotion, but, if i don't get started, it can't become a habit!

so, here's to a fabulous beginning in 2011....both personally and professionally, and i look forward to creating many more wonderful treats for us all to be pampered with in the new year! blessings, love, and light, opheliaOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-185899134458978362010-10-20T09:51:00.000-07:002010-10-20T10:03:51.568-07:00Updated October Shipping Schedule! We are slowly getting back into the swing of things after the trip to California last week! So, today's blogpost is all about how we got our name. it's sortof a long story....but, i'm sure you will find some of it rather entertaining! When i was young, about 5 years old, my parents gave me the barbie perfume maker....and thank goodness for google, i found a pic for you! Now, this really was the beginning of crafty little me! how it worked, you put the perfume bottle into the yellow tulip in the middle, then placed a little fragrance stick...those are the heart and round shaped things on each side, into the notches on the tulip. then, there is a little button that you would press that would cause the tulip to rotate back and fourth, thus mixing the fragrance into the 'fragrance blending solution'....ok...i made that part up. it was blended into water! I would then take a huge funnel i snagged from my mother's kitchen, and funnel it into her previously full avon bottles. i say previously, because i dumped them down the bathroom sink. i'm sure the fumes i inhaled in that little project were just one notch this side of toxic! anyway....i then took my newest fragrances and sold them at recess at school.

this didn't go over well. but, as you can see, it never deterred my pursuit of entrepreneurial endeavors. years later, in highschool we read Hamlet. oh how i was in love with Shakespeare! I was even more entranced by his lovely character 'ophelia' and it was even more cool that she had her own little apothecary!

so, fast forward another 20 years.....and here we are. i recently described our little apothecary in an exchange with a client~friend....and i would like to share this vision with all of you! ...'in my head, 'ophelia's apothecary' is in a small, coastal town....with white washed walls, and beautiful herbs hanging from the rafters drying. the cobalt blue bottles line the walls, and a little bell over the door rings to announce your entry. its a simple little store...but, its filled with love of all things nurturing and balancing.'

we hope you enjoy our little apothecary as much as we do!

OpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-63596279597357291712010-01-04T10:52:00.000-08:002010-01-04T11:01:12.716-08:00New Lip Tints in shop NOW!!!
Hello my pretties! we have taken a bit of a blogging reprieve for the last *ehem*....week. but, we haven't been totally hybernating! we did some baking, some movie watching, some laundry....and we rested. we have also been working on the destash stuffs for our other shop. so, today starts a new week, and with the new week, we have new products! yay!

Our buttercreme lip balms have quite the following, and we've been getting many requests to offer lip tints. well, now we have them, and we will be adding more colors soon. *translates to....when we can make it out of our snow and ice packed driveway to get more tint....i might just have to resort to shopping online. ~ now there is a whole 'nother vice of mine we have yet to address!

Anyway, the lip tints are an all vegan blend of oils and yumminess. they have vanilla icing flavor...not quite the decadent buttercreme, but we will be switching over to the buttercreme with the next batch! our supplier of all natural, vegan lip oils is having a hard time keeping up with the buttercreme demand! lol. to check out these lovely little lip tints click here OpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-74027393463145904942009-12-29T17:28:00.000-08:002009-12-29T17:38:05.684-08:00Love....
We are in the process of going through a bunch of old supplies to destash eventually....sort of a New Year's Clean Up and Reorganization. Anyway, we came across this rubber stamp that said...'let what you love be what you do' and I was in the middle of trying to figure out what my next blog post was going to be about! So, viola....here we are!

This stamp really has us thinking about our goals, both personal, and professional for the New Year. 'Time' is so valuable...that we really want to spend this year doing the things we LOVE to do. Not things we feel we have to do, or things we feel reluctant, but somehow obligated to do....but things we LOVE to do and things that bring more love into our lives. I know this little apothecary has been a dream for years and years....and we are so proud of all our work and efforts building it out of, well, really...nothing but love and passion for it. We hope that in this new year...heck, new decade....that it is filled with health, happiness, and abundant love. blessings, opheliaOpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-6554540301220727092009-12-28T18:41:00.000-08:002009-12-28T19:00:53.877-08:00My Current 'ME' project!I always feel the need to nest in the winter....and with the several layers of snow we have, no time like the present to work on a crafty project that doesn't get pushed to etsy! I just taught myself to knit a couple of years ago, and have many, many scarves to show for it....along with several unfinished projects...that we won't talk about here...lol.

My project this winter is to knit and crochet a throw for our living room, once we actually get our sofa, and get the living room situated. Which, at the current rate, may not happen until next winter...but, ya know, at least i have awhile to work on my throw!

My project is to knit several 'scarves' and then crochet them all together, making stripes from different textures of yarn. Once that is done, I plan on sending some left over yarn to my friend Jennifer at Iwunder to make some fabulous flowers for one corner of the throw....

I cannot wait to see my finished throw...but for now, you all will just have to see pics along the way. I don't have one yet of the progress, but, we will see what the next post brings....

In the meantime, please check out Jennifer's shop, and my other friend Celeste, who recently added Luxury Throws to her etsy shop CricketsCreations

Hope you find a nice cozy project to settle in with this winter....it's important when your hobby becomes a business, that you still find a hobby to balance that creativity out with!OpheliasApothecaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16568327438613256513noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4928825316449308724.post-4917643575039780412009-12-27T16:18:00.000-08:002009-12-27T19:49:53.350-08:00Baking is a Cure for being Snowed In!

ok, so this is day four of being snowed in during the blizzard of 2009. granted, we did make it to the grocery store today....which is why i'm bringing you this recipe....but, still...you can't beat having 9 inches of snow for having an excuse to be lazy and BAKE! most of you know that i love to fill my house with cozy fragrances...especially during the bitter cold days of winter! i like to bake pumpkin bread, brownies, cinnamon muffins...you name it! when i ran across this recipe for one of my favorite desserts...well, i just had to put a spin on it to make it all mine!

for todays baking pleasure...Delish Vegan Carrot Cake feel free to take the recipe and make it your own!

2 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

1 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup brown vegan sugar

3/4 cup vegan sugar

3 eggs worth of Ener-G egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup applesauce

2 1/2 cups carrots, shredded

1 cup water (if too thick)

Walnuts, couple hand~fulls of coconut, and a handful of Craisins.

Mix dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, spice, salt) in one bowl.
